Asia’s animation industry is evolving rapidly, shaped by cross-border collaborations, diverse storytelling, and new approaches to IP development. This panel brings together creative leaders and producers from Hong Kong, a region known for its hybrid cultural influences and dynamic media landscape, and Japan, which is celebrated for its rich history and significant global impact on animation. Together, they will share insights on producing content that resonates with both local and global audiences.

Director Raman Hui, known for his Hollywood background and directing a major box-office hit in mainland China, will share his perspective on bridging Western and Asian storytelling sensibilities. Producer Polly Yeung will discuss how projects like “Another World”, selected by Annecy, reflect growing international interest in original Asian narratives. Samuel Choy, producer of “McDull” and “The Excreman”, will explore how Hong Kong IP evolves and expands through creative production strategies. Koji Morimoto, an acclaimed Japanese director recognized for his groundbreaking works and influence on the global animation industry, will contribute insights from Japan’s unique perspective—enriching the discussion with his deep experience in navigating both domestic and international creative landscapes.

The discussion will also address the broader Asia-Pacific context — including trends in co-production, financing, and distribution, as well as how various Asian markets navigate the global animation ecosystem — making this panel highly relevant for those interested in cross-cultural animation ventures.
